Here at Skagerak, students enter the programme from many different backgrounds with a wide range of mother-tongue or primary languages. We recognise the significance of these first languages both for language development generally and for students’ cultural identity. It is important to see their home languages valued and showcased in the library alongside English and Norwegian.
Our library mother-tongue collection is an area we would like to develop, and we are always interested to hear suggestions for titles to extend and update our collection. As we have such a variety of languages, and many change year on year, as the students come and go, we are grateful for help from families who might have good books which are outgrown, particularly in languages which are more unusual.
